We are a fast growing startup focused on optical sensors and imaging technologies. In our medical business unit, we create novel solutions for ophthalmologists and telemedicine. Currently the team is expanding and offering an opportunity to a student who wants her/his Master Thesis to become reality.

Project description

A high-resolution camera enables novel diagnostic procedures in ophthalmology. Completely new fields of application arise for telemedicine and patient screening. The high precision device requires an automated tracking system to compensate for small movements of the patient.


  • Evaluation and optimization of the camera data
  • Investigation and comparison of various machine vision algorithms for image segmentation to determine the pupil position and to determine the focus position
  • Design of a robot arm or positioning stage for adjusting the alignment deviation
  •  Selection and optimization of the control algorithms for controlling the robot arm


  • Enthusiasm for new technologies, creativity and do-it-yourself
  • Programming skills (C ++, Python, Matlab)
  • Bachelor in Mechatronics or Computer Science

Dr. Ulrich Hausmann,

You will be a key player in the design of image processing and computer vision. Together with hardware engineers and medical doctors, you will develop technological concepts, structural requirements and implementations. You will work in an environment that encourages your personal growth and provides opportunities to learn, share knowledge and bring your ideas forward.  

Responsibilities will include

  • Develop software solutions from first prototype to medical product

  • Camera integration (SDK interface, illumination synchronization, image stream and display)

  • Image processing using computer vision algorithms

  • Implement image-based feedback-loops and actuator controls

  • Design an intuitive user interface with focus on usability to facilitate new diagnostic workflows

  • Interface with standardized, clinical data-base systems

  • Documentation according to international requirements for medical devices

Minimum qualifications

  • Good C++ programming skills

  • 2+ years of experience in software development

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

  • Experience in the area of medical technologies, machine vision or robotics

  • Hands-on experience with image processing and computer vision (i.e. OpenCV)

  • Experience in object oriented programming with Python, Java, C# or .NET
